An incredible 50-point night from Stephen Curry was not enough to stop the Golden State Warriors from going 0-8 on the road this season.
The Golden State Warriors have not had a great start to their title defense this season. The defending champions from last season hoped to have a strong start to their season this time around regardless of the controversy that they went through in the preseason, but they have been nowhere close to their best – especially when it comes to their games on the road.
The Warriors succumbed to yet another loss on the road as they lost to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. The Suns defeated the Warriors 130-119 in what was the Warriors’ eighth loss on the road this season, despite some incredible heroics from Steph Curry who put up a season-high performance – racking up a whopping 50 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in the game.
It was one of Steph Curry’s best displays ever as he put up the 11th 50-point performance of his career, almost single-handedly helping the Warriors cut down the deficit that the Suns had going right from the first quarter. While the Suns won the first three quarters, it was an uphill task for the Warriors as they ended up losing the game by 11 points despite winning the last quarter.
Who else starred in the Suns’ 130-119 win over the Warriors?
While Stephen Curry took the headlines in a losing cause, it was Cameron Payne and Devin Booker who starred for the Suns in their win.
Curry scored a season-best 50 points on 17-of-28 shooting, including 7-of-11 from three-point range for the Warriors – but it was not enough to earn them the win courtesy of two excellent performances by Cameron Payne and Devin Booker. While the former scored a career-best 29 points, the latter came up with 27 points, 9 assists, and 3 blocks to secure the win for the Suns.
The setback drops Golden State to 0-8 on the road, the franchise’s worst start on the road since the 1989-90 season when the Warriors lost their first nine away games.
