Here are the NBA 2023 deadline-day trades. Know which player ended up on which team.
This 2023 NBA trade deadline was one of the most chaotic events that ever happened in a while in the NBA.
There was a lot of player movement and it gave rise to several emotions. Some trades were expected, some were exciting, while some were heavily shocking. In short, the 2023 NBA trade deadline was no short of drama.
Before the trade deadline, LA Lakers acquired Rui Hachimura from the Washington Wizards for Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks. The Lakers were not done yet. They decided that it is finally time to trade Russell Westbrook.
So, in an attempt to make the roster stronger, LA Lakers added D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Malik Beasley in a three-team deal with the Jazz and Timberwolves that saw Utah landing Russell Westbrook, Juan Toscano-Anderson, and Damian Jones. Meanwhile, Timberwolves received Mike Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
On the other hand, looks like Brooklyn Nets decided to blow up their team. Nets traded both of their superstar, that is, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
In a blockbuster trade, Nets traded Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns. Brooklyn in turn received Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and several first-round picks.
Also, Nets traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks. Along with Kyrie, Nets also traded Markieff Morris. In turn, Brooklyn received Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith.
D’Angelo Russell started his career in Los Angeles Lakers when the Lakers drafted him with the second-overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft out of Ohio State.
In two previous seasons for the Lakers, Russell started 108 games but later in the 2016 offseason, Russell was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
This time around, Russell will join a completely different Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis; who are on a mission to turn the team’s season around.
Dinwiddie once again came to Brooklyn as a part of trade package that sent Kyrie Irving to Dallas Mavericks.
Spencer Dinwiddie originally signed with the Nets in December 2016 as a reserve point guard but he then soon became an important player for the Nets. Dinwiddie even got the Nets back to the playoffs in 2019.
However, Dinwiddie was then acquired by the Washington Wizards in August 2021 as a part of trade package but now once again, he is back with the Nets.
Wall was originally traded from the Wizards to the Rockets in 2020 in exchange for Westbrook. John Wall’s tenure with Rockets was not memorable and Wall wanted to be out of the Rockets last season.
Wall’s wish resulted in a mutual buyout agreement with the Rockets at the end of the 2021-22 season. Wall then joined LA Clippers.
Now, Wall is dealt back to the Rockets as part of a three-team trade between Houston, the LA Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies.
Gary Payton was an important role player on GSW’s championship team last year. Payton helped GSW massively to win the NBA championship last year. With GSW, Payton even achieved career highs in games played (71) and points per game (7.1).
However, Payton signed a three-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers this past offseason. Now, once again, Payton is traded back to GSW with just half a season into that Portland contract.
He was a part of the three-team deal that sent James Wiseman to the Detroit Pistons.
Here are a few more players with reunions:
The Milwaukee Bucks traded George Hill back to Indiana Pacers along with Serge Ibaka and Jordan Nwora, for Jae Crowder and a handful of picks.
Hill originally played for the Pacers from 2011 to 2016 and was regular at Playoffs. Now his veteran presence will help Pacers a lot to push for another Playoffs appearance.
With the No. 7 overall draft pick in the 2008 NBA draft, Eric Gordon was then drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers. Then in 2011, Gordon was traded by Clippers and he ultimately ended up with the Rockets.
34-year-old Gordon is now a veteran who is again joining the Clippers, who have stars like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
Poeltl kickstarted his NBA career with the Toronto Raptors in 2016 before being traded to the SA Spurs in the 2018 offseason. He was part of the package with DeMar DeRozan that sent Kawhi Leonard to Toronto.
Warren started his career with the Suns as the 14th overall draft pick in the 2014 NBA draft and was traded to the Pacers in 2019 for cash remunerations.
For Mike Muscala, Boston Celtics traded Jackson back to the Thunder, including two draft picks. Notably, Jackson played 33 games for the Thunder in the 2020-21 season.
Fernando started his NBA career with Atlanta Hawks as a second-round pick in the 2019 NBA draft. He was a part of the Rockets’ trade to acquire Justin Holiday and Frank Kaminsky.
