Will Andrew Wiggins lose his salary by being unvaccinated?
The 2021-22 NBA season is right around the corner and Golden State Warriors player Andrew Wiggins is set to lose a major chunk of his salary. The team requires all of it’s players to get fully vaccinated before the season starts. Any player who misses out on the same will not be allowed to participate in the home games.
Moreover, as per the reports the players will not get paid for the games they miss because of the vaccination rules. Wiggins is one of those player and can lose more than $350,000 per game. Which will result in him losing 50% of his salary overall.
During the Warriors’ media day Wiggins said (h/t NBA):
“Back is definitely against the wall, but I’m just going to keep fighting for what I believe, I’m going to keep fighting for what I believe is right. What’s right to one person isn’t right to the other and vice versa.”
Wiggins earlier applied to get religious exemption for vaccination. However, his request was denied by the league. As things stand as of now, Wiggins will not play in any of Warriors’ home games this season. Also, he will lose half of his $31 million salary.
Is vaccination mandatory for all the players?
As reported earlier, vaccination is not mandatory for all the players in the NBA. However, the cities of New York and San Francisco have made it a compulsion. And all the players from their teams to be vaccinated.
As per the rules the player who decide to be unvaccinated will miss out on the home games of the team. Moreover, they will not be paid for the games they miss out on.
