Rumors have started circulating about the future trade of Anthony Davis, after a disappointing end to the season for the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers were knocked out of playoff contention, following their loss against the Phoenix Suns which put a curtain on a season that was very disappointing for everyone associated with the Lakers franchise.
This team was set up to win the championship, and they were the favorites to win it all prior to the start of the season, but failing to even make the play-in tournament is a kind of travesty that nobody could have seen coming.
The major disappointing factor of this season was the unavailability of the two superstars of the Lakers: Anthony Davis and LeBron James, both of them a major chunk of the season due to injuries which was the main reason why the Lakers were so terrible this season.
Anthony Davis’ injury issues have been a major concern for the Lakers because it’s two seasons where the Lakers were let down by him when they needed him the most, and due to this rumors about a possibility of trading AD have gathered pace in recent days.
Speaking about the talks of trade rumors, the Lakers superstar Anthony Davis said, “I can’t control those things, That’s an upstairs thing. A Klutch, Rich Paul thing. My agency.”
He added, “I mean, my job is to go out and play basketball. Obviously, I love it in L.A. If that’s something that they’re considering, then we’ll have a conversation about it. I don’t know what they’re talking about, what’s the plan.”
Anthony Davis knows that his injury has cost the Lakers a lot because when he was fit in his first season in LA, the Lakers went on to win the Championship which had created more expectations from them heading into the future.
Davis further said, “My job is to be on the basketball floor and play games, When I’m healthy, I’m a motherf—er. But I got to stay healthy. Unfortunately, it was two injuries I couldn’t control this year but I’ll be back at it next year and see what happens.“
AD talked about how his injuries were not his fault and they were just due to bad luck which could have happened to any other player also.
He added, “I had no injuries this year where it was, ‘Damn, that’s AD’s fault,’ Someone falls into my leg, sprains my MCL. The same exact thing Kevin Durant had.“
AD was asked if his training methods needed a change because he was getting hurt so much and he said, “No, To be honest, my training methods were top tier. I can’t control stepping on someone’s foot and I can’t control someone falling into my leg. It’s not like I’m out of shape and I f—ing did some crazy s— or it was anything I could control.”
AD further talked about how his preparations during the offseason helped him to recover early from his injuries during this season and said, “The good thing is, what people don’t know, is that the doctors actually told me that you’re lucky. Our team doctor said if you weren’t doing the work that you were supposed to be doing this summer, both could have been worse.“
He added, “I could have one, f—ed up my foot way more. Or I could have torn some s— in my knee. So it’s a positive for me, knowing that I put in a lot of work this summer and I prevented catastrophic injuries from happening to my body.
He further said, “So, people can say what they want to say, but I know what I do every summer to get ready for an 82-game season.”
There is no doubt about the talent that Anthony Davis possesses, as he is among the best players in the league when healthy and we have seen that whenever he plays for a longer stretch.
Trading him won’t be the answer for the Lakers because you can’t get a player like him to pair up with LeBron James to have a shot at the championship and they can only hope that AD stays fit for the next season, which will ultimately make them a legit contender for the Championship again.
