Nicknamed as “Ant-Man”, Edwards covers the shooting guard position on the court ad plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Brought up in Atlanta, Georgia, the nickname was given by his father.
Standing 6 feet and 4 inches, Anthony has recently been a topic to discuss after what he passed around on social media this Sunday. In the post that has now been deleted, he took a video from inside his car where a group of people was standing on the sidewalk, and he used an anti-gay comment to describe them.
The Minnesota Timberwolves mentioned in a statement just after one day Edwards posted, that they were disappointed against the anti-gay statement made by their star player Edward on his Instagram. The team commented, “We are disappointed in the language and actions Anthony Edwards displayed on social media. The Timberwolves are committed to being an inclusive and welcoming organization for all and apologize for the offence this has caused to so many.”
National Basketball Association(NBA) also reviewed the matter. This is not the first time that a comment-based controversy popped up NBA; the Brooklyn star Kevin Durant was handed a fine worth $50,000 last year for using “offensive and derogatory” language on social media. Earlier, Nikola Jokic was fined guilty in 2018 for his statement during a post-game interview.
Not only this, but also Black Mamba (Kobe Bryant) was also found in a similar case in 2011 in which he was seen yelling an anti-gay slur at a referee and was penalized a handsome amount of $100,000.
Edward came up to apologize for his statement by posting a tweet in which he mentioned, “What I said was immature, hurtful and disrespectful, and I’m incredibly sorry.
Let’s examine how fans reacted after the superstar issued his apology statement.
