John Collins was the second-leading scorer for the Atlanta Hawks last season, but the team is looking to trade him.
As per reports, the Atlanta Hawks are looking to trade their star player John Collins. Collins was their second-highest scorer last, only behind Trae Young. The trade destination isn’t clear yet. However, there will be many teams who will look to bring Collins to their team.
John Collins still has four years remaining on his five-year, $125M contract with the Atlanta Hawks. He has been a crucial part of their team since he was drafted, and it remains unanswered why the Hawks are looking to part ways with him.
He is among their best defenders, can shoot the three-ball, and catch lobs from Trae Young. Moreover, he is a big body that is lacking from the Hawks roster.
The Atlanta Hawks were eliminated bu the Miami Heat in the 1st round of the playoffs last season. As a result, they are looking to shake things up, and are looking to trade John Collins.
Marc Stein talked about the Collins trade, and said, “The likelihood of a John Collins trade, league sources indicate, is as high as it’s ever been. Collins just completed the first season of a five-year, $125 million contract, but the newness of his deal didn’t do anything to downgrade external interest in the 6-foot-9 forward that has bubbled leaguewide since talks broke down between Collins and Hawks on a $90 million extension at the start of the 2020-21 season.”
He added, “He was one of the league’s most-talked-about trade targets this season until Atlanta ultimately decided to shut down all Collins discussions before the Feb. 10 trade buzzer when the team started to pull out of its 17-25 start. The trade chatter has since only intensified since Atlanta’s meek first-round exit to Miami in five games… I’ve been advised that relocation for Collins this offseason is pretty much expected now.”
The trade might be done any time soon, as the Draft is upon us. Maybe, the Hawks will be able to get a good pick for him to draft a high rated prospect in this year’s draft.
