CJ McCollum has urged the New Orleans Pelicans to get a new deal done former Los Angeles Lakers, and current Pelicans star Larry Nance Jr.
Christian James McCollum has recently been amongst the headlines in the NBA community after he put pen to paper on a new deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. The 31-year-old signed a two-year extension worth $64million over the course of the period that will see him stay at New Orleans until the end of the 2025/26 season, and earn a salary of $133million over four years.
The extension of McCollum follows another important extension that the Pelicans pulled off this summer in Zion Williamson, as the New Orleans franchise aims to tie down their core of key players for a number of years. And as many would agree, the next step to tying down their core of key players would be to get an extension done for Larry Nance Jr.
Larry Nance Jr joined the Pelicans in early 2022 much like McCollum himself but turned himself into a core member of the New Orleans franchise’s set-up in very less time. Having played for franchises such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trailblazers, Nance Jr has the necessary experience to be a leader for the rest of the squad.
So naturally, tying him down after the extensions of Williamson and McCollum makes the most sense – and the latter agreed to the notion too.
What did CJ McCollum have to say about tying Nance Jr down to a new deal?
McCollum voiced his opinion about Nance “needing to get a deal done.”
When Nance Jr tweeted on his official Twitter on the occasion of McCollom signing the new extension (“my guyyyyy! Big time brotha @CJMcCollum”), McCollum quoted his tweet and added: “Now I need my guy to get a deal done” – an interaction that went viral.
The Pelicans fans will certainly hope that is the case, as they look to tie their core down.
