The Dallas Mavericks had a great season this year. They exceeded all the expectations this season that were set for them. However, they’ll still need to improve their squad ahead of the next season. One of the biggest decisions ahead of them is Jalen Brunson.

He will be a free agent in the summer, and many teams will be interested in him. Jalen had a stellar season and he has proved that he is a great player and deserves to get paid. The Mavs have also expressed their interest in bringing back him as he is an important player for them.

Mavs GM Nico Harrison was clear with his stance on Jalen Brunson. He said, “We’ve got to figure that out, Obviously, we’re not in control of it, but he’s definitely a priority. We want to re-sign him. He knows it. We want him back. He’ll be a big part of our future.”

Jalen has formed a good partnership with Luka Doncic, and together they are quite lethal. The future looks bright for the Mavs, and Jalen Brunson is likely to be a part of it.

Mark Cuban wants Jalen Brunson to stay in Dallas!

Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks is in full support of bringing back Brunson to Dallas. He understands how important Brunson is for his team, and Cuban will make sure that Brunson stays in Dallas.

Cuban said, “We can pay him more than anybody, I think he wants to stay and that’s most important. I think J-Kidd has a big part to play in that. I think JB blossomed as a player as much as anybody on the squad.”

Mark certainly believes that JB has made a huge leap in this season. He said, “From where he was last year to how far he came this year is a tribute to Jalen and how hard he worked, and the support he got from his dad and his family and his girlfriend. But also what he was able to learn from J-Kidd. I think he recognizes that and I think he wants to stay.”

Can the Mavs contend for a championship next season?

The Dallas Mavericks punched above their weight this year. They eliminated the likes of Utah Jazz and the Phoenix Suns in the playoffs. The way that Luka led his team was remarkable. Their role players also stepped up when it mattered the most.

However, to contend for a championship, they’ll need to get better in some aspects. Their biggest concern will be getting a big center who can start for them. Dwight Powell is a decent player but he is not a big body. He is more like a stretch 5 and as a result, he isn’t able to protect the rim.

If the Dallas Mavericks are able to get a center like DeAndre Ayton or Rudy Gobert, they certainly can win a championship next season. Luka is special and everyone knows that, but he needs help. He can’t do everything alone, moreover, his defense is not that good. The Mavs need to protect him on the defensive end just like the Warriors protect Curry. With a big body like Ayton or Gobert, their rim will be protected.

The Mavs have very good wing defenders like Bullock, DFS, and Kleber. If the lane is shut by a big body, their defense is more than capable of shutting down any team, just like they did with the Suns in 2nd round.

This offseason will be big for the Mavs, a big move can immediately put them in contention for the championship, and the Dallas front office knows that.
