Darius Garland has signed the biggest contract in the history of the Cleveland Cavaliers after a stellar campaign last year.
The Cleveland Cavaliers had a very good season last year. Even though they failed to make the playoffs last season, it was a great experience for their young team.
They missed the playoffs due to injuries to multiple star players on the team. As a result, they lost their way in the latter part of the season.
The player who made the biggest leap on the Cavs team was young point guard Darius Garland. He became an all-star last year and led the way for this team throughout the season. He stepped up when the team was missing Colin Sexton due to an injury, and he never looked back from there.
He is seen as an essential part of this team moving forward. The franchise has rewarded him with the biggest contract in the franchise’s history. He has signed a five-year max rookie extension with the Cavs.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN: Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star guard Darius Garland has agreed on a five-year, $193M maximum designated rookie contract extension that could be worth as much as $231M, @KlutchSports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN. It is the largest deal in franchise history.
Darius Garland will be leading the franchise in the future
The Cleveland Cavaliers have a promising future ahead. Their young players showed everyone last year that they are special. The way Darius Garland transcended into a great point guard was quite mesmerizing.
Moreover, the likes of Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Collin Sexton, Lauri Markannen, and Caris Levert make this team a great young team. They have a lot of potential, and if they stay healthy, they can make a lot of noise next season.
