De’Anthony Melton brings up family reasons to beat the Lakers

De’Anthony Melton of the 76ers reveals that he preferred the Clippers rather than the Lakers

De’Anthony Melton was born in Los Angeles, but that doesn’t guarantee that he’ll support the Lakers. When asked if he supported the Lakers as a kid, the 24-year-old guard gave an unexpected response. De’Anthony Melton grew up as a Clippers’ supporter, not a Lakers’ big admirer.

“I was a Clippers fan. I promise you. My mom had Elton Brand’s jersey, Corey Maggette… So remember seeing all those in her closet.” Melton told the 76ers reporters.

Melton added that as a child, he longed to watch the Clippers win championships, especially when most of his family members backed the Lakers. “For sure. For sure. I wanted the Clippers to win four or five championships when I was younger. So it’s just crazy to see [Elton Brand] now and how everything unfolded, especially with Doc.”

De’Anthony Melton stated prior to racking up a remarkable night that there was an additional benefit heading into this game against the Lakers. He was aware that more of his members of the family were Lakers fans, which contributed to his desire to defeat the team he had cheered against as a child.

“We got to beat the Lakers. Obviously, you got to beat the Lakers. A lot of my family, they like the Lakers, but my mom and my sisters we are Clippers fans.” Melton said.

De’Anthony Melton came through big time, upsetting the Lakers with a monstrous effort. In this period of constant transitioning, Melton, a 6’4″ point guard (with a 6’8″ wingspan), has the sort of size perfect for guards defensively. While he is unpolished on the other side of the ball, this is a respectable place to start.
