Dennis Schroder had two other teams in mind before ending up at the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the upcoming season.
Dennis Schroder has marked a return back to the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the upcoming season.
The German professional basketball player who has spent nearly a decade in the NBA with the likes of Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder, the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets is now back with the Lakers – a franchise which he has already spent a season with.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Schröder’s first spell with the Lakers was a complete disappointment.
Upon joining the defending NBA Champions for the 2020/21 season, Schröder got never really got underway with the Lakers and often came under scrutiny by the fans as well as Lakers legend Magic Johnson who criticized Schröder for his attitude as well as his mentality.
Naturally, with his value seeing a stark decline after an unsuccessful season, Schröder split the 2021/22 season with the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets.
However, on his deal expiring with the Rockets, Schröder was on the trading table once again and as it turned out, the Lakers were in for him once again – but it has been reported that two other teams were also interested.
It has been reported that two teams other than the Lakers were in for Schröder before the Lakers roped him in for the upcoming season.
According to Shams Charania from The Rally, the Toronto Raptors as well as the Phoenix Suns were in for the German ahead of the upcoming season.
The claim makes sense as both the teams’ concerned need someone of Schröder’s calibre to fill the depth for their backcourts, however, it was the Lakers who outbid both franchises and secured Schröder’s services for the new season.
It will certainly be exciting to see how Schröder’s second spell with the Lakers turns out as the legendary franchise aim to reclaim the NBA Championship.
