Donovan Mitchell showed his New York roots off as he celebrated the New York Mets clinching a spot in the Play-Offs of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Donovan Mitchell is one of the best young players in the game right now, and is often considered one of the best point guards there is in the NBA at the moment. Mitchell is often associated with Utah having played there for five seasons where he took the Jazz to the Play-Offs for five consecutive years – while a trade in this off-season took him to Cleveland.
However, Mitchell is still a New York boy at heart – having been born to a Minor League Baseball player in Elmsford, New York, Mitchell grew up as the son of the director of player relations for the New York Mets. Naturally, Mitchell spent a large chunk of his early life around MLB locker rooms, and he has grown a major affinity for the sport of baseball ever since.
According to himself, Mitchell’s first sporting hero as well as the first poster on his wall as a child was that of the Mets’ David Wright.
Despite playing baseball in his high school at Canterbury School in New Milford, Mitchell could not continue with his baseball career after a recurring injury – however, his love for his roots carries on, as he let his fans know recently.
Mitchell took to Twitter to write about his love for the New York Mets.
The New York Mets clinched a spot in the MLB Play-Offs with a 7-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, and made sure that their campaign goes on into the postseason – exciting their fans all over the world, but none more so than Mitchell.
The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar quoted the MLB franchise’s tweet about making the Play-Offs, and added an incredibly excited “WERRREEEE BACKKKKK!!!” – echoing the sentiments of thousands of Mets fans across the world as they qualified for the Play-Offs.
