Anthony Edwards received the brunt of criticism from the NBA community on social media following some derogatory comments against the LGTBQ+ community on his Instagram story, while the Minnesota Timberwolves’ statement made it even worse.

The Timberwolves man treaded into the spotlight after he posted an Instagram story filming a group of people and judging them by the way that they were dressed.

Edwards posted a story filming a group of people standing across the street, while saying “Look at these queer ass n****s man. This is what the world’s come to” while a woman laughed in the background. Even though the 21 year old deleted his story soon after, eagle-eyed fans on social media screen captured the video and it soon went viral on Twitter.

Realizing his mistake, Edwards tweeted a statement of apology saying “What I said was immature, hurtful and disgusting” and “It’s unacceptable for anyone to use this language, and there’s no excuse for that. I was raised better.” But as it turns out, it was not nearly enough as the fans demanded more from the Timberwolves man – following which the Minnesota franchise released an official statement addressing Edwards’ comments.

The statement was written from Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Conelly, and it said that the franchise condemned the comments.

We are disappointed in the language and actions Anthony Edwards displayed on social media. The Timberwolves are committed to being an inclusive and welcoming organization for all and we apologize for the offense this has caused to so many.

However, it was not deemed to be enough of a repercussion towards the comments.

What did the fans have to say about Anthony Edwards’ statement?

Fans on Twitter were not impressed by the Timberwolves’ statement as they demanded more.

While one fan said: “If this was some scrub off the bench, he’d be waived and blacklisted from the NBA”, another said “If this was a bench playa they cutting him right?”

However, some fans were forgiving enough to say “Still really disappointed in ant. I’m glad he apologized right away and seemed sincere about it. But he needs to do better.”
