The footage of Victor Wembanyama dominating Rudy Gobert in practice as far back as in 2020 has emerged.
Victor Wembanyama’s name has been in every basketball fan’s lips over the past week. The young Frenchman has gone from obscurity to one of the most trending basketball players on the planet after he played his first set of games on American soil – acquainting the American basketball community with his outstanding physique and his freakish ability on the court.
The 18-year-old Wembanyama stands at 7 feet and 4 inches and has a wingspan of nearly 8 feet, and plies his trade for the Metropolitans 92 of the Ligue National Basketball Pro A in France. Though Wembanyama was an unknown commodity as recently as last week, his exploits against NBA G-League’s Ignite outfit has seen him become a household name in the NBA community.
Wembanyama put on a show against Ignite in both of the games he has played against them so far, racking up at least 35 points in both games at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. His exploits in Vegas has seen him be considered as the favourite to be picked as the first overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, as Wembanyama goes from complete nobody to an unbelievable prospect.
However, it turns out that Wembanyama was not a complete nobody until before this week – as footage of him going up against the NBA’s Rudy Gobert in 2020 has gone viral.
The footage in discussion showed Wembanyama dominate the Minnesota Timberwolves man in practice.
The footage in discussion dates back to 2020, as the French NBA superstar went up against the young Frenchman who was aged 16 back then and played for the Nanterre 92 in France. The clip showed Wembanyama dominating Gobert – who is notorious for standing at a gigantic 7 feet and 2 inches – and getting multiple shots as a young teenager on a professional NBA player by then.
The clip certainly shows that the early signs were always there in Wembanyama if one looked out for them, and Wembanyama might well be one of the greatest ever if he realises his potential.
