Evan Turner brought up LeBron James winning the 2020 title in a jab over the new MVP award
Everyone has been talking about the new MVP award (Most Valuable Player award) that the NBA announced recently with several others.
The NBA has changed the names of a few awards and brought in a few too. However, they named the MVP award after legendary player Michael Jordan.
Many consider the former Chicago Bulls star to be the greatest basketball player of all-time. While that is up for debate, some even consider current LA Lakers star LeBron James as the best ever.
There are other names in this debate but Evan Turner, the 2010 No.2 pick in the NBA draft took a bit of a shot at James.
Turner was responding to a Tweet about what kind of award LeBron would win in 2035. Turner brought up LeBron’s championship in 2020 which was won during the coronavirus pandemic.
Many have suggested that winning the title in 2020 wasn’t that big of a deal given that games were played without fans and in a closed environment.
Many don’t consider the title win from the Lakers all that great. While the bubble environment was something, the Lakers have struggled at the playoffs ever since.
They didn’t even make it last season but that was due to a lot of injuries to James and Anthony Davis.
This season they are in a bit of a problem too. They are struggling to hit the .500 mark and there have been injury scares for LeBron and Davis so far.
Russell Westbrook has had an on-and-off season while Patrick Beverley hasn’t lit up the Lakers as some would have expected.
On the other side, LeBron and the Lakers had to play in the same conditions as every other team. They acclimatised the best and were able to get the win, so not considering this title as a legitimate one is a little out of place.
