Kyrie Irving and Kendrick Perkins
It was Kevin Durant who took charge to change the fortune around for Brooklyn Nets, taking them to the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference after a catastrophic start in the 2022-23 season. However, the former MVP seems to be ruled out for several weeks as he hurt his knee in the team’s latest encounter against the Miami heat. For Kendrick Perkins this is only a blessing is a disguise for Kyrie Irving.
Given that Irving is serving the last year of his current contract with the Nets, Perkins feels that Kyrie Irving has got the perfect chance to show just what he is capable of and perhaps build upon his upward trajectory.
On the latest episode of NBA Today, the 2008 NBA Champ questioned if Kyrie Irving can keep the Brooklyn Nets in the top tier of the EC. Moreover, the NBA Analyst stressed how demands for Irving to lead the Brooklyn Nets is a more demanding fashion.
Perkins said, “I’m gonna be looking at Kyrie Irving. I feel like this is a golden opportunity for Kyrie Irving to prove to the world that he can be the number one option team, that could lead a team to victories. When you think about him, and you think about his skillset, we know he’s a walking bucket, we know he’s one of the most skilled guys to ever play the game of basketball. But I wanna see him get others involved.
“Kyrie is up for a contract this upcoming season. I wanna see, can he be that leader? Can he be that voice? We saw Kevin Durant start to be that voice, start to take [Nic] Claxton under his wing, started to be a second voice to Jacque Vaughn. Can Kyrie Irving be that number one guy while Kevin Durant is out?”
