Boston Celtics Forward Grant Williams’s shoe explodes in a preseason game against the Toronto Raptors
In a preseason game against the Toronto Raptors, Grant Williams was extremely lucky to avoid a serious injury. While going for a layup Grant Williams’ shoe exploded and left him with one shoe to complete the shot. Williams was extremely lucky and apart from a busted shoe was completely fine.
If Williams had slipped or fallen, he may have suffered a serious injury such as a fracture or torn ligament. Williams is also in the last year of his contract and a serious injury might have impacted possible contract offers.
The video of Williams’ shoe exploding is circulating the internet. You can see Williams going for the layup and his right shoe exploding. Towards the end of the video, you can even see his fellow teammate Marcus Smart looking at the shoe in bewilderment.
The Boston Celtics are looking to compete for an NBA Championship this season and will need Grant Williams healthy. Williams has not come to a contract agreement with the Celtics and may become a Free Agent after this season.
Grant Williams reportedly wants a contract worth $14-15 million a year. The Boston Celtics want to extend Williams but are unwilling to pay his asking price.
Williams played an important role in the Celtics run to the NBA Finals last year alongside Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Al Horford. That being said, he has never been more than a role player or borderline starter for the Celtics.
The Boston Celtics seem unlikely to offer Williams the contract he wants this year. Contract extension talks will have to resume when Williams enters Free Agency next year.
Grant Williams may even leave the Celtics next season if another team gives him the offer he wants. For now, Williams will be looking to win a championship with the Celtics and prove he’s worth the money.
