Jayson Tatum recently spoke about the trade rumors circulating around Kevin Durant to the Celtics, for a package centered around Jaylen Brown.
Reports have emerged that the Boston Celtics have shown interest in getting Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets. The trade package was centered around all-star player Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.
The Nets reportedly turned down the offer because they wanted Marcus Smart, the DPOY, to be a part of the deal. The news of these rumors of a trade for Durant startled the Celtics supporters. The majority of Celtics supporters believe that Boston is developing into a special place and do not want the team to trade Jaylen Brown.
The face of the franchise Jayson Tatum was asked about his view on the potential deal to bring Kevin Durant from the Nets to the NBA. Tatum claimed he didn’t know anything about it yet and was pretty content with what they had already in Boston.
Tatum said, “I don’t make anything of it, I just play basketball.” He also talked about how he sees Durant as a player, and said, “I’ve played with him during the Olympics. He’s a great player. That’s not my decision. I love our team, love the guys that we got. I don’t know if that report is true or not.”
Jayson Tatum is happy with the way the Celtics are presently constructed
The Boston Celtics surprised everyone and reached the NBA Finals last season. They were quite close to winning the championship, and as a result, breaking their roster wouldn’t be a wise move.
Their depth is immense, and the pieces that they have added in the offseason have already put them in a better place than last season. The inclusion of Brogdon and Galo will provide the scoring boost from the bench that the Celtics lacked last season, and Tatum also knows about it.
Jayson Tatum further talked about the situation and said, “We got two new pieces. I love our team, I just go out there and play with my teammates. I don’t put that hat on to make a decision.”
He added, “I don’t believe everything I see on TV. I’ve seen some (expletive) about me that was a lie. You never really know what is true and what’s not true.”
From what Tatum said, it doesn’t look like the Celtics are heavily pursuing Durant. It might be another leverage move for the Nets, as other teams might start putting up better offers to get Kevin Durant from the Nets before the start of next season.
Will it be a good move for Kevin Durant to join the Boston Celtics?
It’s pretty obvious that Kevin Durant wants to join a contender. The Celtics are just coming off the NBA Finals, and are in a good position to win it all. If KD joins them then they might be the best team in the NBA.
People already despise Kevin Durant for switching teams from OKC to the Warriors in 2016. They will probably be much harsher on him if he switches to Boston, the team who swept him in the playoffs.
People will despise KD no matter where he goes. Because of this, he might benefit from relocating to Boston. They’ll eventually be the favorites for the championship, and Tatum and Durant together can win the Championship with ease. It will be intriguing to observe if or not this deal actually closes.
