Shannon Sharpe believes that it would be a good trade for the Lakers to trade Kevin Durant for LeBron James.
There has been an immense interest in Kyrie Irving from the Los Angeles Lakers. They want to reunite LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, but so far a deal hasn’t gone through.
On the other hand, Kevin Durant also wants to get traded. As a result, a possible blockbuster trade is on the cards which can see LeBron James and Kevin Durant swapping teams.
NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe believes it would be a good deal for the Lakers to directly swap LeBron with KD. On his show Undisputed, he talked about how this deal would be good for the Lakers.
Shannon said, “If I’m the Lakers I would absolutely be a yes temporarily because theoretically Skip you would have Kevin Durant under contract for this season and three more seasons and Lebron James isn’t under contract after this season but we all know how that goes when Kevin Durant sign in the contract he might be unhappy and then guess what he’ll be gone after the first year.”
Shannon Sharpe believes LeBron James going to Brooklyn won’t be good for the Nets
Even though this trade would be good for the Lakers, Shannon doesn’t believe that it will help the Nets much. They would rather trade KD to acquire assets from other teams.
Shannon said, “It doesn’t make sense for the Nets Skip because like I said LeBron is only on the contract for this season and he’ll be gone and you have an asset and Kevin Durant and you’ve been preaching since day one… why would you trade Kevin Durant when you have him under contract for four more years.”
He added, “Kevin Durant why would he want to go to LA Skip to reunite with Russell Westbrook when you said five years ago the reason why he left OKC was because of Russell Westbrook. LeBron why would he want to go to the Nets, yes Kyrie’s there and they had a great basketball relationship but he’s going to leave one guy in Russell Westbrook who can’t shoot for another guy in Ben Simmons who’s afraid to shoot.”
Lakers might move Westbrook to get Kyrie
The deal has been stalled but you can never count out the Lakers when it comes to the trade market. They want Kyrie and it’s pretty known to everyone. Russell Westbrook has also signaled that he wants out, and it could lead to them involving in a deal before the season starts.
After 11 years of working together, Russell Westbrook just ended his relationship with his agency. They had been together prior to Russ’s entry into the NBA. This gave more hint that an exit for Westbrook is on the horizon.
Russ thought it was the ideal time to sever his relationship with his agent because he was in a new stage of his career. His game has gotten worse with age, much like that of other players, and he is no longer the Westbrook of his earlier years. There have been reports about Kyrie Irving quitting the squad because it was thought that he would join the Lakers.
There is not much of a market for Westbrook. The only reason teams want to trade for him is to acquire the Lakers’ future draft picks and to utilize him as a salary dump because no team in the league is prepared to take on his enormous deal.
Hopefully, all the parties involved can get a deal done quickly. Kyrie wants to play with LeBron, and Russ wants out. Even though the market isn’t there for Westbrook, the Lakers will try to figure everything out to put themselves in the best position to win the championship.
