After Steph Curry’s injury crisis, the Golden State Warriors were well aware of what needs to be done in order to resurrect their form in the 2022-23 season. Being one of the worst sides on the road in the Western Conference, Draymond Green issues a blunt response after the defending champions suffered a 1-5 thumping in their current set of road games.
Their road trip began with an impressive victory against the best-side in the NBA this season – Boston Celtics. However, things went haywire when Bucks locked horns against Warriors as they were not only brutally beaten but on the very next day Steph Curry was ruled out indefinitely due to a shoulder injury.
“Right now, I think we are very fragile,” Green said as per ABC News whilst the Warriors’ current form. “You start going through these things and then you start believing them. Once you start believing them, it becomes who you are. The only way to break them is by being mentally tough. When you look back at that win, it was one where you feel like you can build some momentum now and it’s time to start turning the page did turn the page. It just went the wrong way as opposed to the right way.”
Draymond Green on Steph Curry’s injury
Not only Steph Curry, but even Andrew Wiggins, JaMychal Green and Donte DiVincenzo have been out of action for a while due to respective reasons. Given that this team are not well accustomed to rough patches, this can be the right opportunity for them to settle in without Steph.
“It’s not something that’s going to be fixed with the snap of a finger,” Green added. “You’ve got to work through these issues to get that confidence. It’s just not showing up. As much as you’d like to think, ‘Oh, we’ll be fine, and this guy will come back. …’ No, no, no. You’ve got to work (for) positive outcomes, positive feelings, that ultimately give you that boost of confidence.”
That being said, Draymond ended by saying that he feels ‘sorry’ for the team that finish 1 and 2, as the Warriors might just be playing them after making it into the playoffs via the play-in tournaments.
