Shaedon Sharpe to be  in the next ‘Dunk Contest’ after an electrifying dunk

Ja Morant has tweeted to include Shaedon Sharpe in the dunk contest after a massive dunk by him. The NBA’s official Twitter page also tweeted a video of Shaedon Sharpe dunk. Sharpe, a rookie with the Portland Trail Blazers, was attempting a put-back dunk during Wednesday night’s 128-109 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

When shots were being taken, he noted that a number of Lakers defenders, notably Russell Westbrook, would turn their backs on potential offensive rebounders. Therefore, when Blazers point guard Anfernee Simons found himself in an offensive isolation scenario in the second quarter, Sharpe said he anticipated a three-point shot and an opportunity to make a play off a rebound.

“When it went up, I saw Russ and he turned his head. The ball came off, I just caught it and dunked it”, said Sharpe. Sharpe swooped in on his immediate target but no one cared to box him out. And the 18,560 spectators let out a resounding scream as he dunk with such elevation and intensity.

This season, Sharpe has already completed a number of stunning dunks. However, considering his recent difficulties, Sharpe valued this dunk more. Sharpe has only scored 16 points over six games after tallying a career-high 20 points versus Brooklyn while shooting 21.9% from the field (7 of 32).

Coach’s Point of view on Shaedon Sharpe’s dunk

Although the 19-year-old rookie has exceptional athletic abilities, Blazers coach Chauncey Billups has made it obvious that Sharpe is still absorbing the subtleties of the game. Sharpe, who redshirted at Kentucky last season, struggles both on defence and offensively, according to Billups.

Additionally, opponents have made measures to make things more difficult for Sharpe now as the video of Shaedon Sharpe dunk has gone viral and also caught the attention of many basketball legends.
