The former Dallas Mavericks player Jalen Brunson finally signed with the New York Knicks and ended the speculation.
Jalen Brunson, a free agent point guard, will agree to a four-year, $104 million contract with the New York Knicks. Brunson was heavily linked with the Knicks throughout the year, and the Knicks have finally got their new point guard.
When the Knicks dealt guard Alec Burks and center, Nerlens Noel, to the Detroit Pistons, they freed up $19 million in salary, which allowed them to offer Brunson the deal. In addition, the Knicks sent the Pistons second-round draft picks in 2023 and 2024 as well as $6 million in cash.
The Knicks and Brunson met when the free agency period began. The Knicks, who were previously regarded to be the favorites to sign Brunson, were finally able to give him the type of contract he wanted.
Brunson averaged 11.9 points, 3.7 assists, and three rebounds a game throughout the course of his four seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. With Brunson as a dependable backup option to Luka Doncic, the Mavericks have qualified for the postseason each of the last two years.
Rick Brunson, the father of Brunson, works as a Knicks assistant coach. The rookie contract for Brunson with the Mavericks was arranged by Leon Rose, general manager of the Knicks. Rose’s first client as an agent was Rick Brunson.
The New York Knicks are messed up. Even though they made the playoffs two seasons ago, last season was a disaster for them. They need a point guard, and maybe Jalen Brunson is the guy to help them.
Brunson can elevate them to a further level, but he isn’t the man that can lead them to a championship. RJ Barrett is the face of the franchise, and he’ll get help from Brunson, but the Knicks to make some more major moves.
