Udonis Haslem signed a new one year extension at Miami Heat that would see him stay for his 20th season at the franchise
The Heat have repeatedly continued to extend Haslem’s stay at the club even though the 42-year-old has not been part of their rotation for quite a while now and there is a reason behind it according to renowned analyst Jalen Rose.
The veteran’s leadership and experience makes him indispensable and contributes to their recent on-field success, as the Heat reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Haslem has helped develop leaders in the current Heat roster and helped them prepare for adverse situations as well as bring the team together in those moments.
Rose spoke about Haslem’s character, and how he has seen the veteran not back down from LeBron James, Dwayne Wade. According to former NBA player, if a player of that calibre in his outright prime speaks in a huddle, the team comprising the likes of Jimmy Butler will certainly listen and get motivated to go out there and do the same.
Rose also pointed at the Heat’s tendency to keep their players around as he gave instances of Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning who still works at Miami Heat as the Vice President of Player Programs. Mourning, Heat’s all time top scorer in the NBA is to ensure the personal and professional development of Heat players from the boardroom – much like Haslem is in charge of in the dressing room.
The 42-year-old Haslem who has won three NBA championships with the Heat knows all about what it takes to win a Championship Ring, and he will look to impart all of his knowledge and experience to the current Heat roster who will look to win the franchise’s first NBA title since 2013 a campaign where Haslem was in his prime.
