James Harden has agreed to a two-year agreement with the Philadelphia 76ers that will result in a $15 million pay decrease for the 33-year-old player for the upcoming season.
Harden now has a new player option in year two of the contract after choosing not to exercise his $47 million player option.
James Harden forced his way out of the Brooklyn Nets to the Philadelphia 76ers, as he thought it would be a better situation for him. He was criticized for his decision, but now that decision seems right with what is happening in Brooklyn now.
According to Shams Charania of the Athletic: James Harden is taking a $15 million paycut for next season that allowed Philadelphia to elevate roster — with sole focus on a championship run in 2023. Harden opted out of his $47M player option and now plans to sign a new two-year deal with a player option in Year 2.

They already have a great team, and some new pieces could elevate them to the next level. The inclusion of P.J. Tucker will bolster their defense, and more moves will be made that will put them in the right position to contend next season.
