Throwback to when James Harden was shocked to know that he passed Larry Bird’s all-time NBA scoring list
Last year during the NBA Championship match between Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons, James Harden took over a legendary landmark as he passed Larry Bird on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and now sits at 34th overall.
He reached the milestone by scoring 24 points on that night in the Brooklyn Nets game. However, he had no clue about reaching the milestone and got to know during an interview. This is how he reacted to it,
“Oh I mean obviously you know how great Larry was in the things that he did in Boston, A Legend I think I just play the game the right way and hopefully good things happen for me passing you know one of the greatest to ever played basketball is a great honour and I just got to continue to go because, At the end of the day, I want my name mentioned with those greats”
After that game, he had 21,792 points which were one Bird. It was the ninth triple-double Harden has recorded since joining the Nets in mid-January.
James Harden broke many records during that game against Detroit Pistons
Harden became the third-most triple-doubles recorded by a player in a single season across the Nets’ franchise, according to ESPN’s Stats & Information research. It was also the fourth most by a player in his first season with a team, according to Elias Sports Bureau data.
During that game, James scored the final 10 points for Brooklyn, completing his second-most clutch-time points. With the win over Detroit, the Nets improved to 8-1 when Harden records a triple-double, and he can move past Gary Payton (21,813 points) and secure the 33rd overall place by scoring his next 22 points.
