Jaxson Hayes is the New Orleans Pelicans center and let’s see what led to his arrest.
New Orleans Pelicans center and NBA star, Jaxson Hayes was arrested after an alleged altercation with the police in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles on July 28. The said incident took place in the early morning.
According to a Los Angeles Police Department news release, the police officers were responding to a domestic dispute complaint in the 22000 block of Mariano Street when they made contact with a man in the front yard of a residence shortly before 3 a.m.
Authorities later confirmed that the man was 21-year-old NBA player Jaxson Hayes.
Hayes was told by responding officers that they have received a call at the location and needed to talk with the victim while he had to remain outside.
The officers blocked Hayes as he allegedly didn’t listen, and tried to enter the home repeatedly. The police then called for backup.
Police claim that the officers attempted to place Hayes’ hands behind his back, but he resisted and pushed one of the officers into a wall.
Hayes was then taken to the ground and was tased twice by a stun gun because he continued resisting and attempted to get up.
The altercation lasted for about two and half minutes before the officers were finally able to restrain Hayes.
He was then taken to a local hospital for treatment and was later arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, according to the Police Department. He was then released from custody on a $25,000 bond.
The Police Department has also said that the officers were equipped with body-worn cameras during the incident.
Furthermore, on Wednesday, a video of Hayes’ arrest surfaced, where it showed he was getting tased by the police.
Hayes claims that during the altercation with police, pressure was applied to his neck and he was choking. This prompted an excessive force investigation.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michael Moore has announced that the LAPD is launching an investigation into whether excessive force was used against Hayes by the police.
