Jayson Tatum is undoubtedly the spearhead behind Boston Celtics’ success in the 2022-23 season. Being the best team in the regular season in the first half of the season, Celtics have been led by this 24-year-old modern-day sensation. However, it seems like the MVP frontrunner might have been dealing with injury concerns on his finger.
While the Celtics are already without Jaylen Brown at the moment, their misery could certainly increase as Jayson Tatum indicated on wanting time on the bench after the mentioned concerns.
Tatum said in the post-Nets’ game interview, “I had to tape my middle finger and ring finger together. I got a lot of s–t going on. But that played a part in lingering things, and it was uncomfortable tonight. I love to play too much to sit out. That’s something me and Brad will fight about. When it gets to that point, maybe you see me sit out, maybe not.”
If Jayson Tatum decides to sit out, his MVP candidature can also take a severe hit. Given that stars like Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are making a serious impact, Tatum could once again be excluded from the top 3 list.
On the other hand, the Celtics need a handful of wins to cement their place in the playoffs. Where they need both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in full fitness and form. So, this could just be the time used to give them required and deserved rest.
