Joel Embiid channels his inner DX as he hits out at Kevin Durant for offensive celebration

Joel Embiid channelled his inner “DX” as he hit out at Kevin Durant for an offensive celebration during the Philadelphia 76ers game against the Brooklyn Nets.

The Philadelphia 76ers went up against the Brooklyn Nets in their latest outing at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Wednesday night. It was the home side that came out on top in a 137-133 win courtesy of strong performances from Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid – while heroics from Seth Curry and Kyrie Irving were not enough to help the Nets to an away win.

Joel Embiid in action for the 76ers

While Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid racked up 27 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists and 26 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists respectively for the Philadelphia 76ers, Seth Curry and Kyrie Irving starred for the Brooklyn Nets as they racked up 32 points and 4 assists, and 30 points, 2 rebounds and 10 assists respectively for the Nets – despite ending up on the losing side.

However, despite ending on the losing side, Joel Embiid made quite a few headlines on social media courtesy of his celebration on scoring against the Nets. On scoring against the Nets from inside the paint in the third quarter, Embiid pulled out a celebration known popularly as the “DX” move to rub it in against the Nets – which did not go down very well with Kevin Durant.

The currently injured Durant who missed the outing was quick to voice his opinion on the celebration as he took to Twitter to write: “Trash celebration” and capped it off by tagging Embiid. Embiid was quick to respond with a video of him doing the celebration captioned with “#SuckIt” – almost as a tribute to Degeneration X themselves, as the interaction went viral.

What is the origin of the celebration that Joel Embiid put on?

It turns out that Embiid’s celebration stems from a very famous celebration made popular by the pro wrestling duo D-Generation X.

Degeneration X or “DX” were a pro wrestling group in the World Wrestling Federation (now known as World Wrestling Entertainment) in the late 1990s into the early 2000s, started by pro wrestlers Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

The duo made the celebration popular as well as the largely offensive catchphrase that Embiid used to full effect in order to reply to Durant on Twitter.
