During a post-match interview at Eurobasket 2022, Luka Doncic was asked which teams he likes to watch the most and after thinking for a few seconds answered saying Serbia and Greece. When the reporter asked Doncic why he likes watching these two countries, Luka smiled cheekily and said “You know why.” Doncic’s answer has left many fans excited and ready to guess the reason that he has named these two countries specifically.
A large number of fans have reacted to a tweet of this interview saying that Nikola Jokic of Serbia and Giannis Antetekounmpo of Greece are the reason that Luka was so keen on watching Serbia and Greece specifically with some fans even sharing images of Jokic and Giannis rather than typing their names.
The Luka Doncic Eurobasket campaign this year has been amazing. The Slovenian sensation has helped guide his nation to the Quarter-Finals of the tournament before getting knocked out by Poland yesterday. The defeat came as a shock as Slovenia seemed the favorites in the matchup and had dominated up till that point, even looking like possible winners of the tournament.
Why did Luka Doncic say Serbia and Greece?
There are two main reasons that Luka said he was focused on watching Serbia and Greece’s Eurobasket games. The first reason is that at that point in the competition, Greece and Serbia looked like favorites to win Eurobasket 22 and Luka may have faced off against one of them.
The second reason is that he wants to see how Jokic and Giannis are performing in order to use that as fuel to do better than them. Giannis and Jokic are two people that have achieved things that Luka is also aiming for. Both Jokic and Giannis have been voted the Most Valuable Player(MVP) in the NBA and Giannis won a championship in the 2020-21 NBA season. These are two things that Doncic is aiming to do in the next few years in order to really solidify his place at the top.
