Kendrick Perkins issues bold challenge to Kyrie Irving as Kevin Durant gets sidelined

Published by

As Kyrie Irving has finally shown signs of consistency with the Brooklyn Nets, he has been bundled up with the responsibility of leading the Brooklyn Nets in Kevin Durant’s absence. The latter star has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL and is seemingly ruled out for a considerable period of time right before the All-Star Game.

Kyrie Irving and Kendrick Perkins

Former NBA Champion turned analyst Kendrick Perkins has issued a severe challenge to Kyrie Irving on how he can take center stage by controlling the upward trajectory of the Brooklyn Nets. Moreover, Perkins truly believes that years of hard work in the league could be the ideal chance for Kyrie to shine and make amends for all his controversies.

The ESPN Analyst said, “Kyrie Irving, can you do what Kevin Durant did when you were out last year? He has been the question mark on Kyrie his entire career since he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Can he lead a team and get wins as the top dog without another superstar alongside him?”

The 2008 NBA Champion added, “We’re not asking for full size. We’re just asking for a sample size. We’re just asking for an appetizer. We’re talking about a month to 45 days. Can you get wins and get your numbers and be a leader on the floor?”

Perkins rightly pointed out that Irving has all the required skill sets to be at the top and to be a true leader. But his first task will not be easy without KD as the Nets will lock horns against the best side of the 2022-23 season – Boston Celtics. Will Irving be able to stamp his authority and add to his All-Star candidature? Remains to be seen.
