Kevin Durant and his heroic 32-point performance for the Brooklyn Nets was still not enough to hand the Nets a win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Brooklyn Nets and Kevin Durant had quite an eventful summer. After Durant fell out with the Nets’ General Manager Sean Marks and requested a trade this off-season, it seemed likely that the Nets would have to begin their season without their talismanic forward. But as it turned out, Durant decided to respect his contract and play out this season with the Brooklyn Nets.
It turns out that Durant’s change of mind was a good decision from the Nets’ perspective after Durant starred in the Nets’ regular NBA season opener with a 32-point performance. The Nets went up against the New Orleans Pelicans, and Kevin Durant put up quite the show as his numbers following the game showed a man in form, and still at the peak of his powers.
The 33-year-old Durant racked up 32 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in the game against the Pelicans, and finished the game as the highest scorer on either side. It was an inspirational performance for the Nets as he scored twice as many points as the next best (Patty Mills with 16) but unfortunately for him and the Nets, the final outcome of the game did not go to plan.
How did the game end for Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets?
Despite Durant’s heroics, the game ended in a 108-130 loss for the Brooklyn Nets.
Despite Durant being head and shoulders above every other player on the court at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, none of his teammates could support him – and hence it was the New Orleans Pelicans who dug in to shut the Nets down and eventually cruise to a 130-108 win.
Despite putting on a 32-point performance which is one of the best we’ve seen in the early days of this season, the Nets trailed the Pelicans throughout the game and succumbed to their first defeat of the season – much to their talisman’s frustration and disappointment.
