In a matter of couple of months, the entire momentum in and around the Brooklyn Nets franchise has completely changed. Being led by Kevin Durant as brilliantly as ever, Jacque Vaughn has completely changed the demoralized culture, making his team contest for the numero uno spot in the Eastern Conference standings against Boston Celtics.
While Durant decided to give another try with the Nets, a miserable start, followed by Irving’s antisemitic controversy only saw Steve Nash being removed as the Head Coach in unexpected manner. This was just the calling Vaughn needed, and it seems like KD is enjoying every minute under his new coach.
Being as excited as ever, KD went onto appreciate the strategies of his new coach. In the process of which, Durant even fired shots at Steve Nash stating that the same team had no identity before and are playing with much more belief currently.
“I felt like we didn’t have an identity to start the season,” Durant said in the post-game interview.
“And then we started to figure it out… last month or so starting to move. We figuring out our identity as a team and you walk into every game believing that, alright, if we stick to this template and to this structure that we have we’ll be fine regardless of what goes on in the game.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Kevin Durant has been vocal about the change. The multiple-time NBA Champ with Golden State Warriors discussed with Chris Haynes about the reason why he requested a trade during the offseason, revealing that he didn’t feel good about the direction the coaching staff had for the players. Safe to say, his belief in his team does look evident now.
