Kevin Love has played alongside the greatest ever players to have represented the Cleveland Cavaliers – LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and now perhaps Donovan Mitchell Talking of which, the veteran scorer was on the floor to see the performance live. He didn’t mince words when asked about Mitchell’s performance as he led the team against the Chicago Bulls on Monday Night.
Cleveland Cavaliers have dropped plenty of close games in the 2022-23 season and this one could’ve been another painful as they reduced the 21-point deficit in the dying stages. Moreover, it was Donovan Mitchell himself who knocked down the jumper that sent the game to overtime.
“In my 15 years, that’s the best performance I’ve ever seen, ever been a part of. I’ve seen some special ones, I was talking about Kyrie here against Portland when he had 55, LeBron in game one of the 2018 Finals, 57 for Kyrie in San Antonio. But this one takes the cake,” Love said in the post-game interview.
For Love to sit up there and say that what this 26-year-old guard did is the best performance he’s ever witnessed in his career truly shows the magnitude of how historic this performance was. Perhaps one may argue that this could’ve been the best individual performance in the 2022-23 season.
That being said, Kevin Love is the right judge to make such big statements as the big man is the only player to have seen some of the grandest performances of Kyrie Irving and LeBron James.
However, Love failed to talk about his own impressive 34-point quarter, which maybe isn’t as impressive as 71, but is still historic in its own right by all and every means.
