Know why Donovan Mitchell wears jersey number 45
Being drafted as the 13th overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft, Mitchell has surely led his way up in his game.
Mitchell started playing college basketball for the Louisville Cardinals and took him only some time to get into the NBA Drafts. Number 45 has been a part of Mitchell’s jersey for a long now and when asked about the reason he wears it, the main reason turned out as his respect for the GOAT Michael Jordan.
“Everybody wanted to be mike and 23 ran out. You know the Jerseys, I couldn’t get it. So how could I go about with this?” Mitchell further said “I am gonna wear 45 and then, and from there it just took off, and yeah like 45, I can only understand that Chicago and 45 ain’t a famous number”
“No.45 doesn’t explode like No.23 used to. No.45 is not No.23. I couldn’t have done that to No.23.”
The no.45 was first worn by Mr Jordan when he made his first return to the NBA in the year 1995 which was after the death of his father, when he wanted to wear a new jersey in order to begin a new chapter for his career and life, however, the number was only limited to several 22 games.
On the first day of September 2022, Mitchell was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He stepped on the court for the first time for the side on October 19, registering 31 points and 9 assists in a close loss against Toronto Raptors.
The 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest winner has surely been in the form of his life this season, he has registered a minimum of 25 points every match except against Orlando Magic in which he grabbed only 14 points. The Cavs have already registered 8 victories this season and the 6ft 1inch is seen as a major reason for it.
