Since joining the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, Kyrie Irving has missed more games than he’s played for the franchise
Kyrie Irving has missed more games than he’s played since joining the Brooklyn Nets as a Free Agent in 2019. Irving has played 111 games over the last four seasons and has missed 128 games. He has played so few games for the Nets because of injury and several other outside issues.
Kyrie Irving missed 53 games during the 2021-22 NBA season after refusing to get vaccinated. At first, Irving was not allowed to take part in practice or games for the Nets Organization. Following injuries and the heavy load placed on James Harden and Kevin Durant, the Nets allowed Irving to play part time.
This meant that Irving could play away games as long as they weren’t in New York or Toronto. New York lifted its strict vaccination policies close to the end of the season and allowed Irving to play home games. Irving playing in a part-time capacity did not help the Nets much.
The Nets ended up finishing as the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference and found themselves in the Play-In tournament. They made it past the Play-In Tournament but were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics. Irving is set to miss more games this season because of his Anti-Semitic remarks.
Will the Brooklyn Nets release Kyrie Irving?
Following his recent transgressions, the Nets has suspended Kyrie Irving for a minimum of 5 games without pay. It has been reported that during the lead-up to this suspension; the Nets were looking to trade Irving.
The Nets could not find any suitors and are reportedly considering releasing him from the team. This would make Kyrie Irving a Free Agent but it looks like NBA teams may not want to sign him. It’ll be interesting to see what the Brooklyn Nets do in the upcoming days and whether Irving is released from his contract.
