Why is Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James wearing a protective boot?
The Los Angeles Lakers completed an incredible turnaround victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night. It was an inspirational comeback from the away team at the American Airlines Center, as the Lakers mounted a second-half turnaround after being down by more than 27 points to register a 108-111 victory – giving themselves a huge boost in their Play-offs aspirations.
LeBron James, who was out with a hand injury since taking part for a number of minutes in the recently concluded NBA All-Star game, put on an incredible show as he racked up 26 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. However, James was caught on the national broadcast late in the third quarter telling his teammates that he heard something “pop”.
Regardless, James played through the pain and scored 11 more points after the apparent injury, which head coach Darvin Ham said he knew nothing about. After the contest, the report dampened the mood of the Lakers faithful amid a three-game winning streak, and James was seen wearing a protective medical boot during the Lakers’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.
How long will LeBron James be out for?
James will miss an “indefinite amount” of time after suffering a right foot injury during the team’s comeback win over the Mavs, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
“Sources: There’s fear Lakers star LeBron James is likely to miss an extended period of time with his right foot injury,” Charania tweeted. “James suffered the injury in Sunday’s win over Dallas, played through it, and belief is he will be sidelined an indefinite amount.”
The timing of the injury could not be any worse as the Lakers have just picked up some form going into an important stretch of the season, one that could determine their hopes of going into the post-season as well as their hopes in the post-season.
