LeBron James has heaped tons of praise on “generational talent” Victor Wembanyama, and called him an alien over an unicorn.
Victor Wembanyama has had the basketball community in a chokehold since bursting out onto the scene this month. The 18-year-old Frenchman who plays for Metropolitans 92 of the Ligue National Basketball (LNB) stands at 7’3” with a wingspan of nearly 8 feet, and is widely considered to be the favourite for the first overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft this year.
Wembanyama played his first game on American soil as he played for the Metropolitans against NBA G-League outfit Ignite, and put on quite a show. The young Frenchman racked up a whopping tally of 37 points, five blocks and four rebounds against Scoot Henderson’s Ignite, and showed the American NBA community that the hype surrounding him is as real as it can get.
Wembanyama hit Ignite with a flurry of three-pointers and displayed the “unguardable” factor that’s been brought up to describe his game, Even though the game ended in a 115-122 loss for the Metropolitans, Wembanyama stole the show against his rival for the overall first pick in the 2022 NBA draft in Henderson – and got the American basketball community talking about him.
One of the biggest names that Wembanyama got talking about him is none other than NBA legend LeBron James. The Los Angeles Lakers were in action against the Phoenix Suns earlier today, and LeBron spoke to the press following the game – but other than speaking about himself than the Lakers, the King made it a point to address the hype about the ‘next big thing’.
What did LeBron James have to say about Victor Wembanyama?
LeBron heaped high praise on the 18-year-old following his first game on American soil.
Speaking to the press after the game, LeBron called Wembanyama a generational talent and compared him to an alien over an unicorn.
“Everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years. But he’s more like an alien,” he replied to the inquiry made in the postgame press conference, “No one has ever seen anyone as tall as he is, but as fluid and as graceful as he is on the floor.”
The high praise from one of the greatest basketball players to ever step on a court must truly inspire Wembanyama, as he awaits his participation in the upcoming NBA draft for this year.
