LeBron James could well be having the best ever season for a 38-year-old athlete as he has regularly urged and demanded the Los Angeles Lakers, Rob Pelinka to make the necessary trades throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. Until the beginning of this week, it seemed like the Purple and Gold had avoided all the requests until they signed Rui Hachimura from Washington Wizards.
While many thought Rui could be a valuable trade for the 17-time NBA Championship-winning franchise, Rob Pelinka went ahead to make a huge claim on how this team is not done. Citing that LA Lakers are still looking to fill their voids, Pelinka made a huge claim on his team’s aspirations of chasing a championship in this very season.
Pelinka said, “One of the needs we wanted to address with the roster was adding size and depth to the wing position. Of course, this is the time of the year where we are canvassing the league on ways to get better. With me, that’s talking to all 29 teams and their GMs and keeping the cadence, and checking in every few days. That’s something all the teams have been doing this time of year… (Trading for Rui) was an opportunity for us to strike early and address a need in a market that’s proven to be a little slow. This doesn’t mean our work is finished, we’re going to continue monitoring the situation with the 29 other teams.”
As the Lakers suffered their 10th consecutive defeat against the Clippers, King James had to face the media, who were desperately waiting to get a positive response from him. During the postgame conference, James was asked about his thoughts on Rob Pelinka’s promise of continuing to make more trades this season.
The 38-year-old superstar kept it short and sweet by stating, “How does it sit with you? He said it to you guys. He was talking to you, he wasn’t talking to us. Rob’s gonna do his job, that’s his job. My job is to be on the floor and make sure my guys in the locker room are ready to go.”
