LA Lakers star LeBron James praised Reggie Jackson after the LA Clippers edged their city rivals in an entertaining battle
Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 111-110 in a thrilling game. The match boiled down to the last second, as Clippers guard Reggie Jackson scored a last second game winner to help his team ahead by a solitary point.
LeBron James, who has missed the last 4 games due to a swollen knee congratulated Jackson on Twitter after the game. He said: “Great Game!! Mr. October with a big time shot to end it. Salute.” Mr. October is the nickname given to legendary MLB star and Hall of Fame outfielder Reggie Jackson.
His namesake Jackson put up 25 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds in 33 minutes of play. Lakers looked to have given up the game, but finished 28-17 in the 4th quarter. With the loss, Lakers are now 25-28 with less than 30 games to go.
The Clippers played brilliantly in the first three quarters, opening up a 17 point lead with 28 assists across team. A three by Marcus Morris soon after Monk’s 3 pointer gave the Clippers a one-point lead with 18 seconds left. The LA Clippers have now improved to a 27-27 record for the season.
Will Vogel be fired this season?
LA Lakers coach Frank Vogel is at risk of being fired at the end of the 2021-22 season. The performances have been dull to say the least. Apart Westbrook and Anthony misfiring, the Lakers have been disappointing from the bench as well. Austin Reaves, the rookie has shown glimpses of his potential in the absence of main stars.
Anthony Davis has also been missing this season with different injuries. The team looks in complete disarray and have blown big leads in 10+ games now. It will be an interesting decision to retain Vogel. Vogel, who has won the NBA title with Lakers has disappointed since the win in 2020. The Lakers are currently looking at a place in the Play-In tournament, where they would have to manage a win to make it to the next round. Given the firepower that they possess, that would be a disastrous finish for the 17-time NBA Champions.
