Lebron James led Los Angeles Lakers landed small forward Rui Hachimura during the NBA trade deadline from Washington Wizards.
Rui Hachimura did not hesitate before signing for the Los Angeles Lakers. The team has seen legends being made and he is also a fan of Kobe Bryant. Moreover, Rui has also chosen the number 28 for his jersey in honor of Gianna Bryant and Kobe.
The Lakers were having a 5-point lead in overtime against the New York Knicks when Jalen Brunson drove to close down the lead. Hachimura jumped high to block the layup. He has been having an impact of the game and he gets the recognition by Lebron James after the 129-123 win.
“He was aggressive from the beginning of the game until the end. We don’t want Rui to fit in, we want him to fit out. We don’t want him to just come in and just be on some cool because that’s what he is, he’s super cool, low-key, low-maintenance.”
Lebron James added, “But his ability and what he can bring to our team, we need him to showcase that every night for us. Me and AD said, ‘be aggressive from the very beginning’, and he was that all the way to the very end, finishing off his performance with that block. It’s a great piece to have and we’re lucky to have him.”
Lakers’ starting 5 against the Knicks were Rui Hachimura, Lebron James, Anthony Davis, Troy Brown Jr, and Dennis Schroder. Head coach Darvin Ham decided to start Hachimura on Tuesday night. “I was like, ‘Oh, OK. All right,’” he said, smiling. “But I started before most of my NBA career, my first and second year [in Washington].”
“I’m more used to that, you know, being a starter. It was nothing crazy. I was ready to play tonight. Either coming off the bench or starting, I just want to play and help the team. I was trying to be aggressive. Today I think I did it on both ends.”
