LeBron James’ statement about late basketball great Kobe Bryant got a huge ovation from the fans after the former broke the all-time NBA scoring record on Tuesday.
When the Oklahoma City Thunder travelled to the Crypto.com Arena to face the Los Angeles Lakers, all eyes were on LeBron James – who started the game only 36 points off Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record. It was in the final seconds of the third quarter when LeBron hit the Thunder with a fadeaway jumper, and became the highest scorer in NBA history.
LeBron’s legendary moment where he broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing record to cement his legacy as one of the greatest ever was seen by his wife Savannah, his sons Bronny and Bryce and his daughter Zhuri who were all in attendance. LeBron made the occasion even more special by making a statement in the ceremony that followed.
What did LeBron James have to say during the special ceremony?
In the ceremony dubbed the “Scoring King” ceremony to felicitate the record-breaking legend, LeBron James gave a shout-out to some of the greatest players of all time.
Speaking at the ceremony staged to felicitate one of the all-time greats of the game, LeBron chose to thank everyone who inspired him on his journey – including many other greats of the game.
LeBron said: “I had a dream every day, of being in the NBA. I had a dream every day, of inspiring so many people. I dreamt that one day, I would be able to throw no-look passes like Magic Johnson, to be able to shoot fadeaways like Michael Jordan, to be able to have a crossover like Allan Iverson, to be able to have an afro and dunk in a scoring contest like Kobe Bryant.”
While the mention of the late great got a rousing ovation from the crowd, LeBron continued: “You know, I looked up to so many athletes, and so many people along my journey – and they gave me the inspiration, and they allowed my dreams to not die.”
