Luka Doncic was involved in one of the most bizarre plays one will ever see as the Dallas Mavericks lost to the Denver Nuggets by a solitary point.
The Denver Nuggets defeated the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center on Sunday night. It was a thrilling encounter in Dallas as the game went right down to the wire, and it was the visitors who took the spoils by only a solitary point as the game ended 98-97. However, it has been discussed on social media since – that the result could’ve read differently for one incident.
While the scores were level at the end of the first quarter, it was right at the end of the second quarter that Luka Doncic attempted a three-pointer from the side of the court. However, upon nailing down the three, the play was reviewed due to an out-of-bounds appeal and the decision to hand the Mavericks the points was overturned. However, what followed took the headlines.
While the game was stopped without any additional time at the end of the second quarter despite the play being called off, the game in the third quarter was begun with the clock still showing the last two seconds left in the second quarter. The Nuggets took full advantage of the dodgy decision as Vlatko Cancar aimed a three from more than halfway out to clinch the points.
The three points scored by Doncic’s Slovenian compatriot eventually proved to be crucial, as the Nuggets got themselves into the game by winning the third quarter and held on for the fourth to secure a win by a point.
Besides being at the centre of the controversial incident, the Slovenian had a strong outing and continued his hot streak of form this season.
Doncic racked up 22 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists in what was almost yet another triple-double for the 23-year-old. The Mavericks forward-guard continued his hot streak of form that has seen him average 33.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game this season.
While the Mavericks go up against the Boston Celtics on the road next, the Nuggets will welcome the Detroit Pistons in their next game.
