Luka Doncic matches two legends of the game in Michael Jordan and LeBron James after his 53-point haul and performance for the Dallas Mavericks and the Detroit Pistons.

The Dallas Mavericks went up against the Detroit Pistons in their latest outing at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Monday night. The home side came out on top in a 111-105 win against the visitors, courtesy of a Luka Doncic masterclass as the Slovenian scored a whopping 53 points, eight rebounds and five assists to help the Mavericks to an important win at home.

Doncic put on quite the show at the American Airlines Center as he racked up 53 points in a season-best performance. The Slovenian scored a whopping 17 out of 24 field goals at a success rate of 71% on the night, including 5 out of 11 three-point attempts. Doncic also racked up eight rebounds and five assists on the night, also racking up four turnovers as well as two steals.

It was yet another impressive performance to add to the list of incredible displays put on by the Mavericks superstar already this season, as he is currently averaging 33.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 8.4 assists this season. Doncic’s performance on Monday night also helped him match a certain NBA record held only by two of the greatest in Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

With his 53-point performance in the Mavs win, Doncic recorded his fifth career 50-point game that helped him level Michael Jordan and LeBron James in a particular record.

A stat surfaced soon after the game that said Doncic recorded his 5th career 50-point game in his first five seasons. In the last 50 years, Michael Jordan and LeBron James are the only other players with that many 50-point games in their first five seasons – while Jordan had a whopping 17 50-point games in his first five seasons, LeBron James had five 50-point games as well.

It counts as yet another feather to add to Doncic’s much decorated cap as the 23 year old continues his dominant streak of form.
