Luka Doncic now has the same number of 40-point NBA games as the legendary Maverick Dirk Nowitzki.
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Golden State Warriors in their latest meeting on Tuesday night. The home side defeated the visitors by a 116-113 margin at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Tuesday, as it was the Mavs main man Luka Doncic who came up trump with an incredible 40-point triple-double that inspired the struggling Mavericks to an important win.
Luka Doncic has been in incredible form ever since the start of the season, as he has single-handedly dragged the Mavericks to a number of wins this season. Despite the lack of support around him, Doncic keeps pushing his team to another level and he did so yet again when he came up with a 40-point triple-double to help the Mavericks beat the Golden State Warriors.
Doncic was nearly unplayable on the night as he racked up 41 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in the 39 minutes he played. The Slovenian forward-center also completed 14 of his 27 total field goals at a success rate of 52% which helped the Mavericks to the win, however, it was a particular stat about the display that inspired it to trend after the Mavericks had secured the win.
With his latest 40-point haul, Doncic equalled Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki’s tally of 40-point games in his career.
Dirk Nowitzki is in his own right, a bona fide NBA legend – having played 20 years, all for the Mavs, is the NBA’s 6th all-time leading scorer. However, it turns out that 23-year-old Luka Doncic has now equalled his tally of 40-point games in the NBA – and the NBA community were left stunned when the incredible stat surfaced soon after the Mavericks defeated the Warriors.
The stat only provides testimony of the extraordinary talent that Doncic boasts of, and the promising career he has ahead of him even after achieving so much in a short span already.
