Luka Doncic turned Ben Simmons inside out with a crazy crossover when the Dallas Mavericks went up against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
The Dallas Mavericks and the Brooklyn Nets met at the American Airlines Center on Monday night in what was a very closely contested affair. After four quarters that had both teams fighting it down right to the wire, the Mavericks emerged victorious by a narrow two-point margin courtesy of more heroics from the talismanic Luka Doncic – who took all the headlines.
The Mavericks superstar rightfully got all the headlines after the victory as it was his game-high tally of 36 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists that helped the Nets record their fourth victory on the bounce. The big Slovenian forward-guard also completed 11 of his total 22 attempted field goals, however, one other moment from his game went viral on social media following the game.
It was in the fourth quarter of the game when Luka Doncic went up against Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons in a direct duel. With a slender lead on the scoreboard, Doncic went up against Simmons on the edge of the three-point arc and hit him with a crazy crossover that left Simmons sprawling on the floor as Doncic left him behind like it meant nothing to the Mavericks star.
The moment went viral on social media in no time following the game, as even though Doncic failed to make the bucket rustle with his attempt – the image of a helpless Simmons on the floor was trending. Turning one of the best defensive players in the league (despite Simmons’ recent struggles) is no joke, and it was merely a highlight of the immense season that he is having.
Doncic is having an incredible NBA season, and is one of the early contenders for the Most Valuable Player award for this season.
The Slovenian superstar is only 23, but is easily one of the best players in the league at the moment. Monday’s 36-point performance was only the latest of a string of increasing performances by him, as he averages some outstanding numbers on the floor this season.
While Doncic is averaging 36.0 points a season so far, he is also averaging 8.4 rebounds and 8.3 assists this season – leading the points and assists chart while only Giannis Antetokounmpo is ahead when it comes to rebounds. Doncic will hope to keep up this kind of Championship winning form as he aims to win his first-ever NBA ring with the Mavericks this season.
