Marcus Smart fined over $30,000 for cussing out the game ref during ejection vs OKC Thunder

Boston Celtics’ 150-117 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder wasn’t only painful but even dismantled the morale and composure of some of their marquee players. One of which was the reigning Defensive Player of the Year – Marcus Smart, who was penalized $35,000 for a profanity-laced tirade towards the game ref on Tuesday Night.

Marcus Smart

For those of you who are not aware – the event for which Marcus Smart was assessed a second technical foul and was eventually handed the ejection occurred with 2:26 remaining in the third quarter of the Celtics’ 150-117 loss on Tuesday at Paycom Center. Justifying the misery of the defending Eastern Conference Champs in the moment.

“Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart has been fined $35,000 for directing inappropriate language toward a game official, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball relations,” the league said in a statement released on Thursday.

Marcus Smart fined by the NBA

Marcus Smart was fined after his outburst came down upon veteran official Lauren Holtkamp in the heat of the moment. Although the latter blew for a foul on Thunder’s big man Mike Muscala, making illegal contact with Marcus. That is not where the Celtics marquee lost his cool – the fact that Mike Muscala denied him of an opportunity to shoot two free throws, suggesting that Smart was in a motion to pass rather than shoot the basket, provoked Marcus to lose his cool in an already cause.
