NBA 2K developer Ronnie has explained how Stephen Curry and his shooting led to major game changes and revolutionized the game as we know it.

Stephen Curry NBA 2k23

Stephen Curry is widely regarded as one of the best players in the game right now, and some would say that he deserves to be in the conversation for being one of the greatest ever – simply because of his accolades and his influence on the game as we know it.

Curry’s accolades speak for themselves – a four-time NBA Champion with two MVP awards and a Finals MVP award automatically makes him one of the greatest ever.

But it is his widespread influence on the sport that truly makes him one of the best ever – Curry’s incredible ability to find the bucket from anywhere on the court has made him a household name in world sport.

Curry is best known for his awe-inspiring three-pointers that have grown to be synonymous with the Golden State Warriors man ever since he stepped into the spotlight.

And while it influenced basketball players to shoot more often from far out, it also influenced game developers to rethink their game design – as testified by NBA 2K developer Ronnie who spoke about the Curry effect.

What did Ronnie have to say about changing the game courtesy of Stephen Curry?

When asked how the NBA transitioning to a three-pointer-based game impacted NBA 2K, Ronnie credited it to Curry.

“In NBA 2K16, Steph Curry broke the game. He was making shots from 35 feet away, and now the points per shot are way higher from 35 feet than they used to be. Now you’re expected to make dramatic shots like that happen, so now we had to adjust like the NBA adjusted – how do you build a game where you can make dramatic shots like that.”

2K did a great job indeed to transition the changing game in real life into the video game, and are going from strength to strength with every annual edition of the game.
