NBA informed new changes to the franchises and will be effective from Saturday 15th January
With the current decline of the Covid-19 wave and rate of vaccination, the League has made changes in its daily testing rules. As per the new rules, daily surveillance Covid-19 testing for tier-1 personnel, players, and coaches is not required now. Tier-1 personnel indicates people regularly moving within 15 feet around the players.
It also clarifies that individuals will still be tested if found symptomatic, exposed, or enhanced directives by the League. This rule change is for fully vaccinated individuals in the League, while unvaccinated individuals will still be tested regularly as per previous guidelines.
League’s action will be a positive step for the teams and players also. The League has seen a decline in the number of cases and fewer players are now being tested positive and in NBA Covid-19 protocol. It is also reported that 100% of the League staff have received booster doses.
The League already had corrected the “isolation period” in December. They reduced the period to 6 days after confirmation from CDC (The Center for Disease Control and Prevention). This new adjustment is also a positive sign in the league.
As per the ESPN data, till now more than 300 players have entered NBA Health and Safety Protocol. 1/3rd of League officials and League’s 500 tier 1 personnel have tested positive as of now. Also until now, 11 games were postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak within teams.
