An NBA analyst broke down his take on if LeBron James can pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing all-time scoring record in the NBA at the MSG
LeBron James is in his own right, one of the best players in the game and one of the greatest to ever step foot in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has had a legendary career packed with team and individual accolades including four NBA Championships, four MVP awards and 15 All-Star selections, and has broken multiple NBA records along the way.
While LeBron became the first ever NBA player to rack up 10,000 points, rebounds, and assists last season, he is currently playing in his 20th season in the NBA – and recently became only the second player ever to score 38,000 career points in the NBA. This most recent accolade means LeBron is closing in on the long-standing all-time scoring record of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
In fact, LeBron – currently at a tally of 38,230 points in the NBA – is currently closing in on the Los Angeles Lakers legend’s tally of 38,387, meaning that he is only 157 points behind Abdul-Jabbar. The moment when LeBron breaks the record this season is drawing inevitably closer with every passing game, and an NBA analyst gave his thoughts on when can it happen.
According to NBA analyst Nick Wright, if LeBron can average 40 points a game for the next three outings, there is a chance he can break it at the iconic MSG.
The Madison Square Garden in New York is an iconic location for many reasons, and it could add another to the long list as it can witness LeBron James overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when the Lakers travel to New York to face the New York Knicks on the 1st of February.
A speculative Wright wrote on his Twitter account: “*If* LeBron can somehow average 40 per game in the next 3, it would mean he could pass Kareem with a 50 piece at MSG on national TV. Seems impossible, but at this point who the hell knows…”.
