NBA analyst Jonathan Givony has claimed that Nike and other shoe companies are already keen on signing a deal with Victor Wembanyama.
The Victor Wembanyama hype train keeps going and stops for nobody. The 18-year-old Frenchman stirred the American basketball community up with his first set of performances on American soil, and his performances ensured he would be a talking point for the NBA community in the immediate future – as well as years to come in his incredibly promising career.
Standing at 7’4” with a wingspan of nearly 8 feet, Wembanyama combines size, speed and strength into a scary package that has seen him earn an early reputation for being ‘unguardable.’ The Frenchman looked mature way beyond his years as he turned out for the Metropolitans 92 against the NBA G-League’s Ignite – and racked up back to back 35+ point performances.
Courtesy of his performances and NBA legends speaking highly of him, Wembanyama is currently the favourite to be named as the first choice pick in the 2022 Draft. From what has been seen of the teenager, it does not take a psychic to predict that he will probably dominate the league for years – and companies want to tap into his ever-growing brand.
What has been said about companies wanting to sign deals with Wembanyama?
Wembanyama’s ever rising trade has prompted brands into wanting to sign him up.
Wembanyama’s reputation has promoted shoe companies to tap into his hype and earn themselves a deal with a top athlete who will likely dominate the NBA for the foreseeable future. According to NBA analyst Jonathan Givony, brands such as Nike – who Wembanyama is currently signed to – and other companies want to award him with a long-term deal.
“There’s talk of a signature shoe deal on the horizon, either from Nike, which has Wembanyama under contract for two more seasons, or other companies. Wembanyama will test the old adage “big men don’t sell shoes,” with the incredible interest he’s generating on and off the floor,” tweeted Givony, a report that testifies the wanted commodity that Wembanyama is right now.
